We shouldn’t spoil who else is in the game (although we will say the judge is still as hilariously senile as usual) but we will warn you that most of them are just fan-pleasing cameos and there’s little resolution of some of the earlier games’ outstanding plot points. They also ensure that things never get too serious and although people get killed and there some moments of high emotion the game is basically a comedy, and the goings on have about as much bearing on real law as Dr Mario does on practical healthcare. That may or may not sound appealing to you in general terms but the game’s easy charm and endearing characters are almost impossible to resist. ![]() The end result is a sort of interactive version of Law & Order, seen through a filter of Japanese anime and Western pop culture references. There are some relatively tricky puzzles, but there’s very little pressure to get them right first time – and as long as you’ve been paying attention to the story they all obey their own internal logic. Apart from the odd murder it features no violence and requires no arcade skills of any kind. Ace Attorney’s lack of mainstream success is all the more frustrating because it’s exactly the sort of game that would appeal to causal and non-gamers if only they knew about it. ![]()
